The Vinyl Word on... We Are Not Your Kind

While the last two records haven’t quite hit the highs of “Iowa” or “The Subliminal Verses”, this one is a step back in the right direction but still brings something new to the table...

Ideas for the aul' fella...

When asked “Dad, what would you like for Father’s Day?” and they give you the usual response “Ah sure, you don’t have to get me anything.” DO NOT BE FOOLED. THEY ARE LYING. What they really mean is “I don’t even know myself” or “I’m not telling you because I’m your Dad and you should know”. But no need to fret, we’ve got ya covered! Here our top 3 picks for Father’s Day for Music, Movies & TV Boxsets...

Our take on... RSD 2019!

Nowadays, you can bring up your favourite album at the touch of a screen, but there’s something special about taking the record from its sleeve and hearing the hiss and crackle before the first bars of music start. With that in mind, and with Record Store Day looming, I decided to take a look at the five records you need to hear on vinyl...

Our take on... Billie Eilish

To have an estimated net-worth of six million dollars is an accomplishment most of us could only dream of achieving, but singer/songwriter Billie Eilish has achieved this, and more, having two hit singles, “Ocean Eyes” and “Bellyache” as well as an extremely successful debut EP and debut album at the age of 17...

Staff fav's...

When asked what my favourite album on vinyl is, I really struggle because there are so many albums/artists/bands I love, usually ones from the 70’s or 80’s, but, if I had to narrow it down to just one single album, and just on constant content of the album, I would probably say…..Fleetwood Mac – Tango in the Night...

Our take on... Bohemian Rhapsody

In the week where the Queen biopic won four Oscars, “Bohemian Rhapsody” arrives on DVD/Blu Ray with a ton of momentum behind it. The film was also a huge box office smash, despite the disarray that went on behind the scenes which you can probably read about elsewhere. But anyway, back to the film at hand...

Our take on... A Star Is Born

Hot off its numerous Oscar nominations, “A Star is Born” hits home release with a truckload of hype behind it. The question is, does it live up to that hype?...

Our take on... MDRN LV

I’ve been a fan of Picture This since their first single ‘Take My Hand’ was released, and after seeing them live at an intimate gig last year in The Academy in Dublin, I became totally obsessed! So naturally when I heard they were releasing a new album in 2019, I was super excited; every song they release they seem to outdo themselves, so I was keen to hear some new material...

Our take on... Gavin James: Only Ticket Home

After the success of his debut record “Bitter Pill” and the massive single off the back of that album “Nervous”, Dublin native Gavin James returns with a new record that, musically at least, sounds like it was inspired by his touring stints with Ed Sheeran and Kodaline...

Our take on... Jess Glynne: Always in Between

The album kicks off with a short intro featuring Glynne and what sounds to be a gospel choir of backing musicians before “No One” kicks in, followed by “I’ll Be There”. These two tracks perfectly encapsulate what Glynne’s sound is, which is a mix of soul and modern dance and while some artists might struggle to mix the two genres, Glynne makes is seem pretty effortless thanks in part to her unique vocal style which floats between pitch perfect clean vocals to a vibrato she throws in from time to time...

Our take on... Twenty One Pilots: Trench.

For a band who seemed to appear out of nowhere in 2015 with the hit single “Stressed Out”, Twenty One Pilots (in their current line-up of Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph) have been on the go since 2011 and “Trench” represents their third record for label Fueled By Ramen following “Blurryface” in 2015...

Our take on... Kodaline: Politics of LIving

The first thing that you notice on this album when the first track “Follow Your Fire” kicks in is the ultra smooth production that makes this an incredibly radio friendly proposition. Almost every song on the album is a potential radio single and the band have clearly been influenced by the likes of One Republic and Imagine Dragons in the way that they write their songs now with arenas in mind, the lyrics being sung back to them by tens of thousands...
