Our take on... Gavin James: Only Ticket Home

After the success of his debut record “Bitter Pill” and the massive single off the back of that album “Nervous”, Dublin native Gavin James returns with a new record that, musically at least, sounds like it was inspired by his touring stints with Ed Sheeran and Kodaline...

Our take on... Jess Glynne: Always in Between

The album kicks off with a short intro featuring Glynne and what sounds to be a gospel choir of backing musicians before “No One” kicks in, followed by “I’ll Be There”. These two tracks perfectly encapsulate what Glynne’s sound is, which is a mix of soul and modern dance and while some artists might struggle to mix the two genres, Glynne makes is seem pretty effortless thanks in part to her unique vocal style which floats between pitch perfect clean vocals to a vibrato she throws in from time to time...

Our take on... Ocean's 8

Sandra Bullock stars as a recently released from prison Debbie Ocean, sister of George Clooney’s Danny, and she proceeds to reassemble her crew to put together said heist. Her right hand woman, played by Cate Blanchette, helps her along with the recruiting process...

Our take on... Twenty One Pilots: Trench.

For a band who seemed to appear out of nowhere in 2015 with the hit single “Stressed Out”, Twenty One Pilots (in their current line-up of Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph) have been on the go since 2011 and “Trench” represents their third record for label Fueled By Ramen following “Blurryface” in 2015...

Our take on... Kodaline: Politics of LIving

The first thing that you notice on this album when the first track “Follow Your Fire” kicks in is the ultra smooth production that makes this an incredibly radio friendly proposition. Almost every song on the album is a potential radio single and the band have clearly been influenced by the likes of One Republic and Imagine Dragons in the way that they write their songs now with arenas in mind, the lyrics being sung back to them by tens of thousands...

Our take on... Deadpool 2

This time, Ryan Reynolds returns in the red suit, and a budget that’s more than double that of the original, and it shows. The action is bigger, the fights are better, but it still retains the crude sense of humour from the original...

Our take on... I Feel Pretty

Following on from the success of “Trainwreck”, and after a couple of stand up specials, Amy Schumer returns to the screen in this new movie in which she stars as Renee Bennett. Renee works in the back office of a cosmetics firm run by Avery LeClaire (Michelle Williams), but Renee suffers from feelings of serious insecurity about her looks and confidence...

Our take on... Narcos: Season III

While it would have been pretty easy for Netflix to wrap up “Narcos” with the death of Pablo Escobar at the climax of season 2, there is a lot more story to be told about the Colombian drug trade following his death, namely in the form of the Cali Cartel...

Our take on... Avengers: Infinity War

Ten years, eighteen movies, six Infinity Stones, and one Infinity Gauntlet have brought us here: the film that Marvel have dubbed the most ambitious crossover in movie history, “Avengers: Infinity War”. The only question is does the film live up to expectations? Of course it does, not only that but it surpasses them easily...

Our take on... Rampage

The story starts with an accident aboard a space station which inadvertently causes the work being done there to land on earth, infecting George and two other animals that go on a, well, rampage...

Our take on... Pacific Rim: Uprising

This was an absolute breeze to watch as it cracks along at a great pace and is massively helped by the charisma of the leads, especially Boyega and Spaey. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable monster/robot smash ‘em up that trades in the deeper elements of Del Toro’s original for thrills, laughs, and more citywide destruction than you can shake a giant robot fist at...

Our take on... A Quiet Place

The title of this film works on a number of levels. It describes how the characters live their lives, it describes what America, has become in the world of the film, and it also describes the best way to watch the film. Turn off the lights, turn down your phone, and immerse yourself in this brilliantly made thriller from first time director, co-writer, and star John Krasinski (“The Office”) that also stars his real-life wife, Emily Blunt (“The Girl on the Train”) and a couple of excellent young actors as their on-screen kids...
