Sarah Hickey is a songwriter and artist from Glanmire, Cork. With a style that blends folk, rock and pop influences, Sarah’s songs are defined by their introspective lyrics and emotive melodies. The new album follows her 2024 debut Fastener, which CLASH described as “powerful, but never flashy; subtle, but completely absorbing.
Way to Water explores themes of change, love, loss and hope. The record marks a natural progression in Hickey’s song writing, expanding her sound while maintaining the characteristics that define her work. Her recent releases have continued to build momentum, with Hotpress praising Hickey as “patient and comforting, and possess[ing] the skill of a storyteller beyond her years – truly a folk legend in the making.”
Hickey has performed extensively across Ireland and toured internationally across the UK and Europe, she has opened for artists including John Spillane, Niamh Regan, Rónán Ó Snodaigh and Myles O’Reilly. She has also worked as a backing vocalist on stage with artists including Fionn Regan, Leif Vollebekk, and Angie McMahon. She creates the cover art for her releases. The artwork is a visual representation of the music’s lyrical content
and overall feel.
