Following on from events in the popular television series, in 'Downton Abbey the Movie' (2019), as news arrives of an impending visit from King George V and Queen Mary (Simon Jones and Geraldine James) the Crawleys and the staff of Downton Abbey must ensure that everyone is on their best behaviour. Can they keep up appearances long enough to serve the King and Queen with a pleasant stay?
In 'Emma' (2020), when Emma Woodhouse (Anya Taylor-Joy) plays at romantic matchmaking with her friend Harriet Smith (Mia Goth) she is caught off-guard when she finds herself becoming attracted to George Knightly (Johnny Flynn).
Finally, in 'Mary Queen of Scots' (2018), Mary Stuart (Saoirse Ronan) returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her throne at a time when England is ruled by her cousin Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie). Despite both announcing their desire for peace Elizabeth feels threatened by Mary's legitimate claim to the English throne and when she produces an heir Elizabeth regards this as a direct threat to her sovereignty. This provocation leads Scotland and England closer to war as betrayal and rebellion threaten both thrones.
