Our take on... LCD Soundsystem's American Dream
After seven unforgiving years the American electronic rock group LCD
Soundsystem return with their fourth studio album and it has been completely
worth the wait.
Finishing up in 2011 for good, the 4 person band led by front man James Murphy
said there goodbyes with a huge fare well show at Madison Square Garden whilst
leaving behind one last live album of the show and documentary to go with it.
However reuniting five years later and releasing their newest studio album
“American Dream” in 2017, the band has certainly given us something that will
last longer than their breakup period. The Brooklyn bands breakup and reunion
undoubtedly put pressure on the band for this album to be a worthwhile venture
and for us, it totally delivers.
The 10-track album “American Dream” shows a huge amount of variety while
still keeping true to their signature sound. The opening track for this album “Oh
Baby” sets expectation for everything to come and before ending already has you
looking forward to your second listen. With the album containing two 9 minute
plus songs we are totally immersed in a carefully crafted LCD Soundsytem
journey. These two lengthy tracks “How do you Sleep” and “Black Screen” mark
the halfway and finish points of the album and are definitely two of the standout
songs on the album. Along with these tracks album opener “Oh baby” and “Call
the Police” seem to jump out from the rest making you admire LCD Soundsytem
that much more for what they do.
Could it perhaps even be argued this sound advancing comeback album is
actually their best yet?
“American Dream” marking the rebirth of LCD Soundsystem leaves us with total
confidence in the group after their perhaps needed breakup and lets us know
they are ready to do what they do best once again.
