The two All Ireland GAA Finals are traditionally one of the biggest live sporting events in the global calender.
On August 18th it was the turn of the senior hurlers, and Kilkenny with five players starting their first final, had defied the odds to reach the 2019 All Ireland final against Tipperary in front of over 80,000 fans at Croke Park in Dublin. By the 21st minute the Cats were comfortably leading by five points - 0-8 to 0-3 - thanks to five TJ Reid frees splitting the posts.
But when Tipp's Jason Forde found his shooting range, and Niall O'Meara found the net, the die was cast. After the contoversial sending off of star man Richie Hogan, big game talents like Noel McGrath, Seamus Callanan, Brendan and Padraic Maher proved too much for the 14 men in black and amber.
At the start of the 2nd half a resurgent Tipperary outscored their weakened rivals 2-3 to 0-2 and with 20 minutes to play - after John O'Dwyer goaled to give the Royals an 8 point lead - Kilkenny were beaten.
